When I first started reading The Catcher and the Rye I was confused (and I still am!). The story jumps around way too much and at times J.D. Salinger goes on random tangents or non-useful information. For example on page 17-18 he starts talking about how the dorm that Holden lives in. And why do we need to know how the dorm got its name?
At times I feel lost and baffled by this book. I am trying to like this book, but I am finding that hard to do. And another thing what is with the horse and city on the cover? The horse looks freaked out about something and why is it the biggest thing on the book cover?
So many questions and not enough answers.
Haha, poor Allison. ;) I think that a lot of us feel the same, like myself, for example. And that's fine. Just don't force yourself to like TCITR, okay? If you want to read and reread and rereread it, fine. If you want to just finish it already, chuck it, and never look back, also fine. :) Be baffled and never write like Holden if you dislike it. Even "bad" books can teach us how to improve our writing... usually, they do better. XD
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I also hope that that horse-kabob gets explained. It confuzzles me so.
